Tim Sheehan
Ceramic Artist
I am a ceramic artist with nearly 30 years of experience,
My professional career was in science and technology. As fascinating as those fields can be, they cannot evoke feelings like art can. But they do inspire and inform my art. Science gives me a foundational understanding of nature and its processes, while technology provides many of the tools and processes I use in my creative process.
Nearly thirty years ago I discovered pottery and I have not looked back. Clay, after all just mud, is one of the oldest, most basic, and most natural artistic mediums. The chemistry behind it, especially with glazes, is very complex and not completely understood. Learning how materials interact and the complex effects of varying firing temperatures and techniques is never complete. It is a frustrating and rewarding medium that can never be truly mastered.
My style has changed as my abilities have progressed over the years. In the last several years, I have learned the techniques I use to create pieces that reflect the beauty I see in nature.
